Chris
and Lynne Walsh are long time
residents of central Massachusetts who shopped and played at
The Whiz for many years. They have two sons, Jon and James,
who have inherited their parent's love of games and toys. In
fact, if not for Jon, the Walshes might not have
purchased the store. Jon was playing at the regular
Friday Night Magic: The Gathering tournament when he
heard that the previous owners of The Whiz were retiring
and closing the store. Chris talked to the owners about
buying the business, and the rest is history!
Chris
and Lynne always enjoyed The Whiz's tradition of making
shopping fun. The Whiz is perfect for those special
and unusual toys, gifts, crafts, games, and cards, but
the Chris and Lynne have greatly expanded the gaming department
to
include classic board games, card games,
and strategy games. The store boasts a 700 square
foot area dedicated to card game and miniatures events.
Prior to taking over The Whiz, both Chris and Lynne had
been in computer programming. Chris was a successful
programmer and manager and is no stranger to
entrepreneurial environments. He played a key role in
the success of a small Internet service provider,
UltraNet Communications. Chris has been an avid game
player for most of his life, and says of his career
change, "This is a dream come true. When I was a
programmer, work was play. Then I became a manager, and
I worked so I could play at home. With the Whiz, I get
to play while at work!"
Lynne
Walsh was a computer programmer for over 20 years before
retiring from the rat race in January 2000. Since then she
has been an active volunteer at the Northborough schools.
"I love putting a smile on a youngster's face. Working
in a toy store, I get many chances every day to see a
child's face light up!" |
